Chitra Kate McDevitt has been teaching yoga and meditation since 2003, has been a yoga therapist since 2014 (C-IAYT), and has her masters in clinical social work (MSW) with a focus on trauma recovery and addiction. She spent four years living in a spiritual community and ten years assisting Yoga of Recovery retreats. YoR retreats combine 12-step principles, Ayurveda, and yoga. She also spent ten years in the rooms of AA, CoDA and ACOA and has come to believe in a harm-reduction approach to substances. She spent 2.5 years working at the local CSB working in crises and with individuals with substance use disorders.Chitra enjoys finding the intersection of ancient yogic wisdom and modern mental health practices. She believes in taking a slow approach to trauma healing using the body and emotions to guide the process. Often telling the story is not as important a need if starting with the body. Her group work has included specific classes for addiction and trauma recovery, emotional balance, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and restorative/nervous system healing. Her trauma treatment toolbox also includes breathwork and EMDR with a special focus on attachment.
